这名名为萨姆的iPhone用户今年3月13日与好友一同，在加州圣克鲁兹蒙特雷海湾划独木舟游玩。当时他脖子上挂着配备了新防水外壳的iPhone 6 Plus。中午11点45分左右，萨姆掉进了水里。他在Imgur上表示：“我非常害怕。尽管我穿着救生衣，但脚被水草缠住。我想我就要死了。”
　　最终，萨姆成功从水底逃脱，回到了独木舟上。不过，他随后再次落水，而iPhone 6 Plus与防水外壳一同掉入了水中。不幸的是，他过了好一会才发现自己的iPhone丢失。独木舟租赁公司的一名员工协助他下水寻找，但一无所获。

　　然而今年5月8日，他收到一条消息称，自己的iPhone已被找到。另一名在蒙特雷海湾划独木舟的运动者在潜水时在海底一块岩石边发现了这部iPhone，仍被防水外壳保护着。
